Richard Farnsworth

Richard Farnsworth's AFI record is opened under the name Dick Farnsworth, with Richard Farnsworth set down separately as his name on screen. He played Dodger in Alan J. Pakula's Comes a Horseman of 1978, and was nominated for supporting actor at the Oscars of 1979. Two years after that he was John Coble in Tom Horn. The AFI records how often that film's director's chair changed hands: Don Siegel withdrew, Elliot Silverstein was hired and replaced, and Jim Guercio shot for ten days before giving way to William Wiard; shooting began at Nogales in Arizona on 15 January 1979. In 1990, in Misery, he was Buster, the police chief of Silver Creek, named in the credits with the words special appearance. The same page writes that the town of Genoa in Nevada stood in for Silver Creek and that the interiors were shot at Hollywood Center Studios. At Independent Spirit's 2000 ceremony he won the lead male category, and the film that brought it was The Straight Story.
