Terrence Malick
7 films
Geoffrey Macnab writes that in his first two films Terrence Malick summoned a detail and a lyricism at odds with the harsh stories he was telling of rural America: Badlands looks to him as much a Depression-era travel film as a film about two murderous drifters, and in Days of Heaven you can be so taken by the image of locusts eating the fields that you forget a farmer's living is being destroyed. The Thin Red Line he counts Malick's vision and no one else's, for all the discordant voices, the star cameos and the cinematography, saying the island setting makes him look like a Prospero with every string in hand. He directed all seven of the films we hold.
