What 2 Days in the Valley Is About
In a valley in Los Angeles, strangers are pulled into contact by a killing. The multi strand crime comedy was a crowded format in the mid nineties, and what separates this one is its secondary characters: a suicidal director, a nurse in the middle of a divorce, a tired man running an art gallery. The murder drives the plot, but the film is really interested in how alone all these people are. The pacing is uneven and some strands are noticeably thinner than others. James Spader's coldness holds the thing steady whenever it threatens to drift.
