Kama Kowalewska W Wojciech Biedroń What 300 Miles to Heaven Is About
In 1985 two Polish brothers, one a teenager and one small, hide under a truck and escape the country. The truck sets off for Western Europe and the boys spend the whole journey there. Where they arrive they become a refugee question; they can neither go back nor be entirely accepted. Maciej Dejczer's film comes from a real event. In fact the boys reached Sweden; the film changed the destination to Denmark. The telling is not built on the excitement of the escape; the real subject is what the two children find on the other side of the border and what the family they left behind goes through. It also shows Poland's own condition at the end of the eighties directly.
