35 - Chinna Katha Kaadu

Nanda Kishore's 2024 Telugu film follows a mother whose son fails mathematics. Saraswathi can barely read and write; in order to help her child she begins studying herself, and that changes every balance in the family. The subject is how large an exam mark can become. The school, the neighbours and the relatives tie the matter to the family's standing; the narrative shows this not as exaggeration but as real pressure. Nivetha Thomas leads and her performance carries the film. The narrative is calm with little event; small-town life is shown in detail. The final section steers the emotion a little too openly. Who it's for: those who like quiet Telugu family drama. Who it's not for: viewers looking for a driven narrative; the film proceeds through everyday detail.
