7th Day

Syamdhar's 2014 Malayalam film begins with David Abraham, a suspended crime branch officer, pursuing an incident on Christmas night. It has not yet entered the records and he runs the investigation unofficially. The structure is built on flashbacks. What a group of young people experienced that night opens piece by piece, and each new fact changes the meaning of the previous scene. The editing carries this reverse telling. Prithviraj Sukumaran leads, with Tovino Thomas in one of his early roles. The narrative leans on several coincidences in its final section, and the resolution does not quite match the tightness of the first half. Who it's for: those who like Malayalam thrillers and time-shifted narratives. Who it's not for: viewers looking for consistent detective logic; the resolution leaves several gaps.
