Early drafts had the lead as a hotel bellboy with no tie to the city; Hanson moved him onto an automotive stamping line and pushed events back to 1995. For the closing duel, Eminem researched the actor opposite him online and put that man’s comfortable childhood and married parents into verse, so part of the on camera fury is not performance. A good fit if you want a climax that is a verbal duel won by confessing your weaknesses before the other man can use them. Not a fit if you need the last scene to show a career beginning; it ends with him walking back to a night shift.
