What A Family Like Many Others Is About
The order of a middle-class family of five children in Mexico City is shaken by an appliance salesman arriving at the door. He sells them a vacuum cleaner first, then a refrigerator, and he also opens up the world of Maru, the fifteen-year-old daughter. The father, don Rodrigo, runs the house by the customs of the Porfirian era and takes no argument. The film sets modernisation against tradition across a family table and shows how authority operates while calling itself love. Alejandro Galindo wrote and directed. Fernando Soler plays the father, David Silva the salesman and Martha Roth plays Maru. It has long been counted among the key films of the golden age of Mexican cinema.
