A Man Amidst Bees

Bruno works as a film editor. His marriage ends and he goes back to his mother's house. He is wrecked; he goes to work, he speaks, daily life continues, but nothing inside is working. Then something strange happens: the people around him become invisible one by one. They are there, they talk and move; he cannot see them. Nobody notices and he tells nobody. Ian SBF directs. Fábio Porchat plays Bruno, with Irene Ravache and Marcos Veras in the cast. The premise is not a physical illness but a figure. The not seeing is shown directly and the narrative does not explain it; the viewer reads it as Bruno's own withdrawal. Fábio Porchat is known in Brazil for comic videos and the part here is largely serious; the comedy stays in the background. The mother is the soundest strand; she sees what her son has become and does not know how to treat him. The visual language is plain and there are few locations; the narrative takes place mostly in the house and the editing room. Its limit is the repetition of the premise; once the idea is set the narrative cannot develop it and the middle marks time. Who it is for: viewers who like Brazilian independent cinema and drama built on a figure. Who it is not for: the pace is slow, nothing happens, and the film does not move for a viewer who rejects the idea.
