What A Man Called Ahok Is About
The film tells the early life of an Indonesian politician. His name is Basuki Tjahaja Purnama and everyone calls him Ahok. He is the child of a family of Chinese descent. He grew up on the island of Belitung. His father Kim Nam worked in mining. The man shared what he earned with the poor around him. He kept doing so even when his business went badly. The son grew up watching that. What the father expected of him was high as well. Ahok first tried to run the family business. That did not work and he looked for another way. He decided to go into politics. In 2005 he was elected to office in East Belitung. In later years he rose as far as the governorship of Jakarta. Daniel Mananta and Chew Kin-Wah appear in the hundred and two minute film, an Indonesian production Putrama Tuta finished in 2018.
