A.R.M - Ajayante Randam Moshanam

The directing debut of Jithin Laal, this Malayalam film spans three separate periods in North Malabar, in 1900, 1950 and 1990, following three generations of the same family. Tovino Thomas plays a triple role, as Kunjikelu in 1900, Maniyan in 1950 and Ajayan, an electrician, in 1990, with each generation forced to protect a sacred heirloom tied to their land against the powerful adversaries of its era. Released in September 2024 to coincide with the Onam festival, the film crossed one hundred crore rupees within eighteen days against a budget of roughly thirty crore, reaching around one hundred six crore worldwide and becoming one of the highest grossing Malayalam films of its period. It was released in 3D, still a rare choice in Malayalam cinema, and reviewers found the format especially effective in the second half. Who it's for: Fans of Indian action adventure that blends multigenerational saga with regional mythology. Who it's not for: Viewers who want a single, straightforward timeline may find the constant jumping between three eras tiring.
