What A Woman of Paris: A Drama of Fate Is About
Believing that her fiancé Jean has abandoned her, Marie St. Clair leaves for Paris alone. A year later, living as the mistress of the wealthy Pierre Revel, she runs into Jean by chance and has to choose between the glamorous life in Paris and the love she left behind. Charlie Chaplin wrote and directed this and barely appears in it, with Edna Purviance in the lead. Audiences waiting for the Tramp were disappointed at the time, but it shows how little signalling he needed in order to build a drama.
