About Time

Richard Curtis's 2013 film follows Tim, who learns that the men in his family can travel back in time. He uses the ability first to repair his relationships. The rules are limited and every correction has a cost. The film begins as romantic comedy; the narrative turns in its second half to his relationship with his father, and the real subject becomes mortality. Domhnall Gleeson and Rachel McAdams lead, with Bill Nighy as the father. The logic of the time travel is inconsistent and the film does not mind. Who it's for: those who like emotional romance. Who it's not for: viewers expecting time travel with rules; the film bends its own.
