What Aces Go Places Is About
A well-known thief, caught in the middle of a job with both the police and the diamonds' real owners after him, ends up working alongside an eccentric detective. The film is less interested in action than in toys: remote-controlled cars, traps, explosions and open nods to the Bond films. It was an enormous hit in Hong Kong and produced four sequels, and this series largely established the comedy-action template of eighties Hong Kong cinema. Sam Hui and Karl Maka are at the centre of it. The Chinese title means best partners.
