Adanggaman

The events take place in West Africa at the end of the seventeenth century. King Adanggaman has made war on the neighbouring communities. The order he gives his soldiers is clear. Villages are to be burned and the old are to be killed. The young and healthy are to be taken captive. The captives are to be sold to European slave traders. Ossei’s village is hit by one of these raids. The young man manages to escape. Most of his family have been killed. His mother has been taken. Ossei goes after the soldiers to free her. On the road he meets a hard warrior called Naka. The film looks at a side of the slave trade that is rarely told. It shows the part Africans played in that trade directly. Albertine N’Guessan and Ziable Honoré Goore Bi appear in the ninety minute film, an Ivorian, Burkinabé, French, Italian and Swiss co-production Roger Gnoan M’Bala finished in 2000.
