Agon

Three athletes are preparing for the summer games to be held in 2024. One shoots with a rifle, one fences, one does judo. The film is about the preparation: the training, the injuries, the exhaustion and the attention of the press. Each works with a coach to bring her performance as high as it will go. When the day of the competition arrives the pressure reaches its heaviest. The account does not fix on the moment of victory; it looks at the body and the mind that were made ready for it. Telling three women at once keeps the sport from being reduced to a single story. Yile Yara Vianello, Alice Bellandi and Sofija Zobina appear in Giulio Bertelli’s hundred minute film, a joint Italian, British, American and French production, completed in 2025.
