What Ahí viene Martín Corona Is About
Martín Corona stands with the poor and the weak in his own district, and is never without either his gun or his guitar. He ends up having to protect a young woman newly arrived from Spain, and her companion, from the bullies of the town. But she takes him at first for one of the bandits and does not trust him. Miguel Zacarías's Mexican film puts Pedro Infante at its centre, with Sara Montiel in the cast. It works in the ranchera mould that was hugely popular in the golden age of Mexican cinema: fighting, singing and comedy together. The same pair appeared in the sequel that followed. The songs are what the film is most remembered for.
