Abdulelah Alqurashi's 2023 Saudi film follows a security guard who makes billions in a short time. With his partners he persuades people into suspicious investments; the promise that money will multiply quickly is the basis of the whole scheme. The subject is what makes fraud believable. Nobody asks for documents and everyone joins because they heard someone else made money; the narrative shows this not as individual naivety but as a collective mechanism. It is one of the productions of the period in which cinema was rebuilt in Saudi Arabia and refers to real investment fraud cases in the country. The tone sits between comedy and crime film; the cutting is fast and the narrative direct. Who it's for: those curious about the new period of Saudi cinema and stories of fraud. Who it's not for: viewers looking for a measured pace; the film uses fast cutting and constant narration.
