What Alice's House Is About
In Chico Teixeira’s 2007 Brazilian film, Alice has been married to a taxi driver for twenty years, works in a beauty salon, has three sons and a mother who works as the maid in her own daughter’s house. None of the three sons listen to her, and all of them treat their grandmother with contempt. The world of women Alice works in and the male order of her home look nothing like each other, and the film sets the two side by side. When a chance to be unfaithful appears, Alice discovers the other betrayals that have been running in the house all along. Carla Ribas plays Alice, with Berta Zemel as the grandmother.
