All That I Love

Poland, 1981. Janek is eighteen and starts a punk band with his friends. His father is a naval officer. His girlfriend's father is in Solidarity. On one side are the things nobody says at home, on the other the strikes in the street. In December martial law is declared; the fathers end up on opposite sides, the friends scatter, and even playing music starts to count as taking a position. The film is not about the large events but about how they got in between four young people. Jacek Borcuch directs the Polish film; ninety-five minutes, with Mateusz Kościukiewicz as Janek and Olga Frycz, Jakub Gierszał and Andrzej Chyra in the cast. It was shown at Sundance in 2010 and was Poland's entry for the foreign language film Oscar that year.
