What Amal Is About
Richie Mehta's 2007 film follows Amal, an autorickshaw driver in New Delhi. Amal is content with his work and treats getting his passengers around quickly and safely as duty enough. An eccentric elderly billionaire he picks up is struck by his humility and leaves him his entire estate before dying. Amal knows nothing about it and has a month to find out and claim it, while everyone around him tries to take a share, the old man's upper-caste friends and siblings included. The film is less interested in how wealth changes a person than in how hard it is for it not to. Naseeruddin Shah and Seema Biswas are in the cast.
