What Ambush Is About

In 1878 Ward Kinsman, a scout and prospector, is pressed by the cavalry into going after a woman taken by the Apache. He sets out with a few soldiers and with the missing woman’s sister, and learns from an Apache woman he meets on the way whose camp the captive is in. They return to the fort and a large expedition is prepared. The film follows the western moulds of its period and shows the Apache almost solely as a threat; that is what it is most argued about today. It was adapted from a serialised story by Luke Short. Robert Taylor, John Hodiak and Arlene Dahl appear in the ninety minute American production, the last film Sam Wood made, completed in 1950.
