An Officer with a Rose

The year is 1945 and the place is Zagreb. The war is over and a new order is settling in. Matilda is the widow of a war hero. She has money. Her apartment is too large for one person. Under the rules she has to take in a lodger. Lieutenant Horvat is the officer in charge of housing. Horvat places his own fiancée there. The fiancée is named Lilijana. Lilijana and Matilda are nothing alike. One speaks the language of the revolution, the other the language of everyday life. The lieutenant becomes attached to both of them. Lilijana is posted elsewhere although she is pregnant. That looks like it makes things simpler. But his commander finds out. He is told to choose. It is either his career or this affair. Ksenija Pajić and Žarko Laušević appear in the hundred and three minute film, a Yugoslav production Dejan Šorak finished in 1987.
