Andrew Schulz: LIFE

Andrew Schulz's 2025 stand-up special is built around becoming a father. His known style does not change: provocation, direct sparring with the crowd, going straight at what is treated as off limits. But the spine of the show is personal, covering fertility treatment, a long run of failed attempts and the child who eventually arrives. That double structure is both the show's strength and its contradiction. Even while describing his own pain Schulz never drops the joke form, and the emotional moments are repeatedly cut with something hard. Some viewers read that as honesty and others as avoidance. Technically, under Troy Miller's direction, this is a standard stand-up recording; the camera watches the stage and draws no attention. Schulz works fast and his transitions between subjects are planned. Who it's for: those who follow Schulz and enjoy provocative stand-up. Who it's not for: viewers uncomfortable with hard jokes about sex, race and the body; the show puts them at the centre.
