What Animals with the Tollkeeper Is About
Henry drives a taxi in New York and his life is made of disappointments. One day three men get into his cab and ask him to drive without telling him where they are going. Henry thinks about it for a while, then agrees. On the journey he meets a woman whose hopes have been broken like his own. Michael Di Jiacomo's film mixes the fable with the real on purpose; the journey is inward more than geographical. The cast is surprisingly large: Tim Roth, Mili Avital, Rod Steiger, Mickey Rooney and John Turturro. The telling shows going after your dreams as both necessary and impossible, and does not choose between the two.
