What Anna M. Is About
Anna is a withdrawn, quiet woman. After a car accident she attaches herself, more and more obsessively, to the orthopaedic surgeon who treated her. She becomes certain that he loves her back, which he does not. Every rejection makes her more insistent, and the insistence turns first into despair and then into hatred. Michel Spinosa's 2007 film treats erotomania as an illness rather than a perversion; Anna genuinely believes it, and inside her own head the belief is entirely consistent. The film settles the viewer into her logic for a while and then forces them to look at it from outside. Isabelle Carré carries it without a trace of overplaying, with Gilbert Melki as the doctor.
