Anne at 13,000 Ft.

Kazik Radwanski's 2019 Canadian film follows Anne, twenty-seven, who works at a daycare in Toronto. She goes skydiving at a friend's hen party and feels focused for the first time. Back on the ground the pressures of daily life return. The film offers no diagnosis. Anne's behaviour becomes steadily harder for the people around her; she recognises no boundary at work, misjudges relationships and cannot stop herself. But the film never answers the question of what is happening to her. The camera is almost entirely on her face and extremely close, shot on sixteen millimetre and handheld. Deragh Campbell's performance carries that proximity. The structure is short and interrupted; scenes end before they finish. Who it's for: those who like Canadian independent cinema and character-driven narratives without a diagnosis. Who it's not for: viewers expecting explanation and resolution; the film gives neither.
