What April in Love Is About
Gérald Hustache-Mathieu's 2006 debut feature follows Avril, raised inside a remote convent. Shortly before she is due to take her vows, one of the sisters who has been kind to her tells her something she never knew: she has a twin brother. Avril goes out to look for him, and after a puncture on the road she carries on with the help of Pierre, whom she meets by chance. What follows is both a search for a brother and the story of seeing the world outside the walls for the first time. It is Sophie Quinton's breakthrough role, with Miou-Miou, Nicolas Duvauchelle and Clément Sibony alongside her. The move from an enclosed life into open air is handled gently and without mockery.
