Arcadia

Yorgos Zois's 2024 Greek film follows Katerina and Yannis travelling to a deserted seaside resort. Yannis has been called to identify someone who died in an accident. The journey begins in silence, and when they reach the resort the order of time breaks. The film does not separate the real from the dreamed; the narrative is built on grief and guilt and leaves the viewer without explanation. Angeliki Papoulia and Vangelis Mourikis lead. The images rest on empty spaces and wind. The pace is very slow. Who it's for: those who like contemporary Greek cinema and uncertain narratives. Who it's not for: viewers expecting resolution; the film explains nothing.
