What Argo Is About
Tibi Balogh and a crew of former security guards set off across Hungary after a treasure called the Golden Owl, and there is a professional from abroad, the Milk Man, chasing the same thing. The mythology the film invents runs back two thousand years, to Roman Pannonia, where a Dacian king and a Roman centurion supposedly built a sanctuary together after a bloody fight and hid the treasure, leaving its location in a diary and in the symbols on a ceremonial cloak. Attila Arpa's 2004 film plays none of this as archaeology; it is a crude action comedy, and it settled into cult status in Hungary over the years. A sequel arrived much later.
