Mohamed Diab's 2026 Egyptian film is set in the nineteenth century. A man living as a slave rises up, demanding freedom for himself and for others. The film does not build the revolt as one man's heroism. The narrative shows how the slave system of the period worked and how the rising was put down; a love story runs through it. Mohamed Ramadan leads. The production is large in scale with investment in period design. The violence is hard. Who it's for: viewers of Egyptian period films and historical drama. Who it's not for: viewers for whom slavery shown in detail would be difficult.
