One of the biggest recent box-office successes in Russian science fiction. A spacecraft is hit by Russian air defence and comes down in the Chertanovo district of Moscow. The neighbourhood is sealed, the army arrives and part of the city is destroyed. The subject is not the ship but what follows: a young woman named Yulya meets the being that comes out of it, and finds herself between the people of the district and the response of the military. What is interesting is that it inverts the genre's usual shape: the threat is not what came from outside but the people who take fright. Fyodor Bondarchuk directed. Shooting began in November 2015, largely in Chertanovo itself and also at Ministry of Defence facilities. The visual effects were produced by the Russian company Main Road Post. It was made for roughly six million dollars and took over eighteen million, mostly in Russia and the CIS countries. Irina Starshenbaum, Alexander Petrov and Rinal Mukhametov lead; Oleg Menshikov plays the officer who is the young woman's father. The most visible example of its moment for anyone curious about Russian cinema and large-scale science fiction. For a viewer looking for original science fiction, most of the shapes are borrowed from American models and the romance line overtakes the science-fiction one.
