What B Is About
15 July 2013. Luis Bárcenas, the former treasurer of Spain's governing party, is brought from the prison where he is being held to the National Court. For months he had denied everything. On this day he changes his testimony and admits for the first time that the party kept a set of off-the-books accounts. The film reconstructs that single session, from beginning to end, exactly as it happened. There is not one invented line in David Ilundain's film; the screenplay consists only of the questions actually asked that day and the answers actually given. Pedro Casablanc plays Bárcenas and Manolo Solo the judge, Pablo Ruz. The camera never leaves the courtroom, circling one table for eighty minutes. The film passes no verdict; it leaves the decision to the audience listening to what was said.
