Ballplayer: Pelotero

The documentary is set in the Dominican Republic. The subject is baseball and young players. In that country children enter academies at an early age. The aim is a contract from the leagues in America. The film focuses on two young men. They are Miguel Sanó and Jean Carlos Batista. Both are counted as sixteen. For a contract the exact age matters. The record keeping, though, is not reliable. So Sanó’s age is investigated. The investigation affects the negotiations too. Clubs turn the situation to their own advantage. The families are left waiting. Trevor Martin, Jonathan Paley and Ross Finkel directed the seventy seven minute documentary. John Leguizamo narrates. The American and Dominican coproduction was finished in 2011.
