Becoming Mona

Mona is nine years old. She loses her mother in a car accident. Not long afterwards her father brings someone home. Her father is called Vincent. The woman is called Marie. She is introduced to the children as a new mother. Marie wants all the attention for herself. Mona tries to keep the arrangement from breaking. She feels responsible for it. She does it at her own expense. She grows into a talented artist, but she has learned to keep quiet, and she ties herself to relationships at work and at home that wear her down. The film tells her story in three parts, from a novel by Griet Op de Beeck. Tanya Zabarylo and Valentijn Dhaenens appear in the hundred minute film, a Belgian and Dutch production Sabine Lubbe Bakker and Niels van Koevorden finished in 2020.
