Beshoot

The film tells what happened at Ilovaysk in 2014 and rests on a true story. Two fighters of the Donbas volunteer battalion are trapped inside the city after the regular Russian army enters Ukraine. The encircled Ukrainian units are shelled on the way out that was called a green corridor. The two men survive with the help of local people and break through the line to reach their own side. The commander known as Beshoot is played by Taras Kostanchuk himself, who lived through that battle. Half of the actors and extras are real Donbas volunteers who came out of the fighting alive. That choice places the film somewhere between reenactment and testimony. The account looks openly from the Ukrainian side and does not hide it. Ivan Tymchenko’s hundred and twenty minute Ukrainian film was completed in 2019.
