Big Brother

Henry Chen, out of the army, arrives as a teacher at a Hong Kong secondary school and takes over the class nobody wants. The students fight, do no work, and the administration is waiting for the class to be shut down. Instead of teaching, Henry goes to the children's homes, sees their families, and shows that the problem did not start at school. Kam Ka-Wai's film moves between fight sequences and social drama, with Donnie Yen both starring and handling the choreography. The template is obvious, but what it says about Hong Kong's education system, immigrant children and class carries it past the template. The fights take place in a school corridor and a fight cage. Who it is for: viewers who like Donnie Yen and stories about teachers. Who it is not for: anyone wanting restraint in the emotional scenes.
