What Body Double Is About
Brian De Palma's 1984 film places an out-of-work actor as house-sitter in a hillside home. He begins watching his neighbour through a telescope. He witnesses a murder. The film makes watching both its subject and its method; the narrative also brings in the adult film industry. The director's references to Hitchcock are open. Some scenes were trimmed for the rating. It was shot in Los Angeles. Who it's for: those who like formally driven thrillers. Who it's not for: viewers troubled by sexual content and graphic violence against women; the film was sharply criticised for it.
