Boong

Lakshmipriya Devi's 2025 film follows a small boy in Manipur. Boong wants to give his mother a present and decides the best one would be bringing his father home. He sets out with a friend. The film keeps the child's view; the tension in the region and the question of the border stay in the background while shaping the journey, and the narrative does not lie to the boy. The cast are local and it was shot in Manipur. The tone is light and the close sad. Who it's for: those who like independent Indian cinema and road films told from a child's view. Who it's not for: viewers expecting the region's politics explained; the film does not do that.
