What Boy Culture Is About
A successful escort who never gives his name tells his life in a series of confessions: the tangled relationship with his two flatmates and an older client he cannot work out. The film neither punishes nor celebrates sex work; it takes it as a job and looks instead at the real subject, which is why a man who avoids intimacy avoids it. Q. Allan Brocka adapted Matthew Rettenmund's novel. It is independent, and unusually cool-headed for gay cinema of the period, with a narrator who makes no attempt to be likeable.
