What Brave Hearts: Umizaru Is About
One of the cinema instalments in the Umizaru series about Japanese coast guard divers. The engine of an aircraft on approach to Haneda Airport catches fire, with three hundred and forty six people aboard. Daisuke Senzaki and his rescue team are called out. The film uses the familiar architecture of the disaster picture: limited time, impossible conditions, personal accounts being settled inside the team. Eiichiro Hasumi stages the rescue sequences on a large scale and, as always in this series, makes water the real threat. For followers of the series the characters' histories continue here, while for anyone arriving new it works on its own as a disaster film.
