Brother

Daniel and Julio are two brothers growing up in one of the most dangerous neighbourhoods of Caracas. Daniel wants to turn professional through football; Julio brings money home by earning it on the street. Someone from a club invites them both to try out. In the same days their mother is killed by gunfire on the street. What follows becomes a separate choice for each of them. Marcel Rasquin's first feature won the Golden Saint George at the Moscow Film Festival in 2010 and became Venezuela's Oscar submission. The strength of the film is not in the football scenes but in the bond between the two brothers being tested by violence. Fernando Moreno and Eliú Armas play the brothers. The telling neither romanticises the neighbourhood nor reduces it to a single sentence; it asks how many people the way out is open to.
