What Cairo Conspiracy Is About

A fisherman's son wins a scholarship to the great religious university in Cairo, and when its head dies he lands in the middle of a contest between the state and the clergy. Tarik Saleh tells it in the shape of a spy thriller, and the choice works, because the subject is institutional rather than theological: who gets appointed, who carries information to whom. The boy's innocence is presented not as a virtue but as an exploitable gap. It could not be shot in Egypt and was made elsewhere. The pace is slow to start and tightens considerably in the second half.
