What Camille Is About
Camille Lepage was a young photojournalist who went to the Central African Republic to cover the civil war breaking out there in 2013. The film covers the last six months of her life: deciding what to photograph and finding herself inside the story instead, then being unable to turn back, then going further in. On 12 May 2014 she was killed in an ambush while travelling with a group she had been photographing. She was twenty-six. Boris Lojkine's film screened at Locarno in 2019, with Nina Meurisse as Camille. It treats the work not as heroism but as something that becomes impossible to stop doing.
