What Carla Is About
Karla is a teacher fresh out of university. She takes up a post in a small town. The town lies in the north of the country. She does not want her pupils to learn by rote. She expects them to think for themselves. But she meets something she did not expect in the classroom. The children already know what to say. They know where to keep quiet as well. Karla tries to break that habit. Her methods are not welcome at the school. A colleague turns against her. Her relationship with a man named Kaspar is talked about too. At the end of the year she is transferred to another school. The film could not be shown for many years. Jutta Hoffmann and Jürgen Hentsch appear in the one hundred thirty four minute film, an East German production Herrmann Zschoche finished in 1965.
