What Celeste & Jesse Forever Is About
A couple who have decided to separate but still spend all their time together try to be best friends through the divorce. Everyone around them finds it strange. The film tells the collapse of that arrangement from her side and deliberately makes it uneven: he moves on while she stays where she is. The narrative gives her no easy ride either; the same need for control runs through her career. Lee Toland Krieger directed. Rashida Jones stars and wrote the script with Will McCormack; Andy Samberg takes the other part. Who it's for: those who like grown-up comedy about what comes after a separation. Who it's not for: viewers wanting a likeable romantic comedy; the film darkens noticeably as it goes.
