Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi

Three brothers run a garage, and all three have sworn to keep away from women. The arrangement falls apart when two of them fall in love, and every rule of the house comes down one by one. The film uses song, chase and wordplay at the same speed, and it became one of the best loved comedies of Indian cinema in the fifties. The leads are shared by three actors who are brothers in real life as well. The breaking of the oath produces all of the film’s humour: the brothers are trying to hide something both from each other and from themselves. Kishore Kumar, Madhubala and Ashok Kumar appear in Satyen Bose’s hundred and seventy three minute Indian film, completed in 1958.
