Charm City Kings

A fourteen year old in Baltimore wants into the crew that fills the streets with dirt bikes. His older brother was in the same crew and died in a crash. The film does not present the bikes as criminal; the narrative builds them as the one space where the boy has a place, and draws its tension from the other options around that space. Which of the adults approaching him wants what is not clear at the outset. Angel Manuel Soto directed. The rapper Meek Mill is in the cast and the riding was shot with real Baltimore riders. It grew out of a documentary. A real warning: the film contains gun violence and the death of a child. The ending is emotionally heavy and offers no comforting resolution.
