Chi La Sow

Rahul Ravindran's 2018 Telugu film follows Arjun, who does not want to marry. His family arranges a matchmaking meeting at his flat; the woman who comes is no happier with the arrangement, and once they are alone the conversation goes somewhere else entirely. The film takes place almost entirely in one apartment. The narrative produces no events; it proceeds through how much the two tell each other and where they stop, and the conversation changes direction several times. Sushanth and Ruhani Sharma lead. The tone is light, but the narrative takes the pressure of arranged marriage seriously, particularly the burden on the woman's side. The supporting characters carry the humour. Who it's for: those who like dialogue-driven Telugu romantic comedy. Who it's not for: viewers expecting a mobile narrative; the film is one conversation from beginning to end.
