In Kaunas in 1972 a group of young people gather in the basement of the former America hotel to pick up the radio from Luxembourg; the music they listen to is banned in the country, and so are their hair, their clothes and the way they speak. When they try to send a request letter to the station it falls into the hands of their English teacher, and the KGB begins to take an interest in the group. That same year a young man burned himself in Kaunas, and the city was shaken by demonstrations and arrests; the film carries that background quietly. Raimundas Banionis’s eighty nine minute Lithuanian film was made in the days of independence and is counted among the first works in which the country turned to its own history.
